I wrote this song for anyone who was a part of the Long Island punk rock scene in the 90’s. We were silly kids with silly bands. Dr. Shays was a dive bar that would let us put on all ages afternoon shows. I made this video with footage from those days. I may not have even been 21 when the original footage was recorded. I think I was able to get my old band to sync pretty well with the new music. To everyone who appears in the video, I miss you all.
This was a fun one. Brody came in with the idea for a path in the woods made from books. I drew it on his leg and we went to work. This tattoo took two sittings to complete and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Let’s go home
So last weekend I flew home to NY. It was a last minute decision to come up and See friends and celebrate the life of our friend Eric Holden who we lost this summer. It was not a convenient time for me to travel. It was not a good time to spend the money on a plane ticket. I can always find reasons not to do something but I am so glad I did this. I had the best time catching up with friends and even getting on stage with band mates I hadn’t played with in 25 years. Energy in the room was powerful, sad and happy simultaneously. I should do more to remember to celebrate my friends who are living while I still can. Unfortunately it often takes losing a friend to bring all the other friends together. It just shouldn’t be that way.
Rain
It’s finally raining here in Atlanta. I don’t think we’ve had real rain for at least a month now. Fall weather has been dry and cool. This is my favorite time of year. I don’t pretend to be the only one who appreciates the change of season. I am one of many who join the chorus celebrating a time for reflection. Somehow this year, the calendar finds me to be 45 years old. I did not intend for it to happen it just did. Here I am enjoying a rainy day in October. I had a cancelation at work and I have a minute to breathe before my hectic weekend gives way to weeks that quicken in pace. Weeks that usher in holidays and winter breaks and chaos. Holidays that bring stress and noise and occasional moments of peace by a fire. Each new year shorter than the last. I am thankful for it all and October is my month. Today I enjoy the rain. I look back. I say “wow!”
I say “here we go again”
Owl Project
So… Dan mentioned he would like a version of an owl that I had drawn for a t shirt years ago. Originally the artwork was a black line drawing owl skull combo. For this tattoo I still took an illustrative approach but maybe a little more realistic style. We ran out of time this session. This is as far as we got for now. I expect we will complete the tattoo in one more sitting. Very happy with it so far.
